College Football Computer Rankings: FSN Top 25
The 2026 FSN College Football Computer Rankings combine team power, opponent quality, résumé and schedule context into an original Top 25. The AP poll is kept separate so model disagreements stay visible.
FSN evaluates performance in the context of opponent strength so beating an elite team is not treated like beating a weak schedule.
Quality wins, losses and strength-of-record help distinguish teams with similar records but very different résumés.
The model resists overreacting in September, then gives the current season more control as FBS results accumulate.

How FSN College Football Computer Rankings Work
Opponent-adjusted team strength
FSN College Top 25 combines current opponent-adjusted power (50%), strength-of-record/résumé (40%), and recent performance versus expectation (10%). Opponent strength is recursive and embedded in power, résumé and form. A prior-season FSN baseline controls tiny September samples and fades completely after five FBS games. Weak/FCS wins provide no résumé bonus, FCS losses are heavily penalized, blowout value has diminishing returns, and head-to-head/common opponents/SOS resolve genuine near-ties. AP ranking never enters the formula.
Results against the schedule
Record is only the starting point. The model asks which opponents produced those wins and losses and how difficult the overall path has been.
AP is comparison-only
The AP Top 25 does not feed the FSN score. Keeping it separate lets readers see exactly where the computer model agrees or disagrees with the media ballot.
