AP’s account likewise documented their absence from the Clemson roster and the competing institutional considerations. That is the supported basis for describing the decision. The earlier version of this article went further, stating its own assumptions about which financial costs outweighed which competitive benefits as though LSU had supplied that calculation.
Two open places did not become two confirmed additions
Reuters carried reporting that the Tigers completed their 105-player roster on September 8 without Wright or Harris. Before that point, an available place was only a possibility. Once the remaining positions were filled, reports of an impending addition no longer described the roster the university said it had finalized.
The practical distinction matters for readers evaluating depth. A player connected to a program through litigation, enrollment or public interest cannot simply be counted as part of its game rotation. That requires a confirmed roster decision and, separately, a coaching decision about participation.
The university publicly clarified its position
According to WAFB’s account of Wade Rousse’s September 9 letter, LSU’s president told the SEC the roster was locked and that the school would not add the two players. He also said LSU would not seek to prevent or postpone the scheduled conference meeting.
That was a more definite institutional position than the earlier discussion of possible additions. It is also why this article no longer speculates about unrelated former players returning or relies on recruiting and basketball items to explain the football decision.
What the decision did—and did not—answer
The roster outcome answered who LSU was counting within its available places. It did not establish the ultimate result of every legal claim. The September 10 conference meeting ended without an announced sanction, but that reporting did not exclude future action.
FSN’s assessment is that the meaningful football consequence was certainty about the roster, not proof of a permanent truce. Coaches could evaluate the players actually available to them; readers no longer needed to build a projected lineup around unconfirmed additions.
