New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice, a significant step toward returning for Week 2 after an ankle injury kept him out of the season opener against Seattle.
Henderson had not played in Week 1 and had spent the lead-up to the opener working back from the ankle issue. His full participation on the Patriots’ first official Week 2 injury report is the clearest sign yet that his status is trending in the right direction before Sunday’s home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Full participation changes the Week 2 outlook
New England listed Henderson as a full participant Wednesday, distinguishing his progress from several teammates who remained limited or did not practice. That does not guarantee he will be active Sunday, but it is a much stronger position than the one he was in before Week 1.
FSN previously covered Henderson when the Patriots ruled him out of the opener against Seattle. Wednesday’s full workload is a meaningful new development because he has moved from being unavailable to participating without practice restrictions.
New England could regain a different element in the backfield
The Patriots leaned heavily on Rhamondre Stevenson without Henderson in the opener. Henderson’s return would give the offense another rushing and receiving option and allow New England to diversify the backfield workload rather than asking one runner to carry most of the responsibility.
That matters against Pittsburgh because the Patriots are trying to stabilize an offense that was inconsistent in Week 1. Henderson’s speed and ability to contribute in space can give the coaching staff a different type of personnel option, particularly on passing downs and in situations where New England wants to create favorable matchups.
The Patriots do not need to force a large workload immediately if Henderson is active. A return can still be valuable even if the coaching staff manages his snaps after the missed time.
Patriots still have other injury questions
Wednesday’s report was not entirely positive for New England. Offensive tackle Dametrious Crownover did not practice because of a knee injury, while cornerback Carlton Davis III was out with a neck issue.
Ben Brown was limited with a knee injury, Dre’Mont Jones was limited with a foot issue and Robert Spillane was limited with a knee injury. Henderson was the only Patriots player listed as a full participant on the report.
That makes his progress one of the clearer positive developments of the day even as New England continues evaluating multiple starters and depth pieces.
What to watch next
The next step is whether Henderson maintains full participation Thursday and Friday and whether New England gives him a game-status designation. If he continues practicing without limitations, the path toward making his 2026 debut becomes much clearer.
For now, Wednesday represented a meaningful turn from Week 1. Henderson went from missing the opener because of his ankle to handling a full practice as the Patriots prepare for Pittsburgh.
