New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo revealed he seriously considered retiring from the NFL just one month after suffering a gruesome leg injury that ended his rookie season.
A Season Cut Short
Skattebo played seven games before his season ended in Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles. The injury was severe, involving a right ankle dislocation, an open tibia fracture and a ruptured deltoid ligament.
During his rehabilitation, Skattebo admitted to CBS Sports that he contemplated walking away from football entirely. When asked if he ever considered hanging up his spikes, the running back stated, ‘Probably a month in.’
Reaffirming Commitment
Despite the physical trauma of the injury, Skattebo has reaffirmed his commitment to the game. He is now preparing for his second season with the Giants.
For his sophomore campaign, Skattebo is expected to team with Tyrone Tracy, Devin Singletary, and Najee Harris in the Giants’ backfield. This new group dynamic will test his ability to regain form as he returns from a career-threatening setback.
